Sisterhood has a myriad of activities with something to interest any woman:

  For Community

  • Weekly hospitality at Temple Emanu-El's Friday evening Oneg Shabbats

  • Youth, Education, Service (YES) Fund Projects

  • World Union Shabbat -- special morning service and celebration to recognize the Reform movement in other countries and our own cultural diversity 

  • Circle of Service Tea -- elegant benefit event for the YES Fund
           During January or February, in an elegant home

  • Hall of Fame Luncheon -- recognizes leaders of Sisterhood for their contributions
            During January

  • Shabbat dinner for residents of CHAI (Community Home for Adults)

  • Temple Tours -- Sisterhood provides docents for tours at
    Temple Emanu-El on an as-requested basis

  • Intrafaith Luncheon -- joining with other Sisterhoods of Reform, Conservative, Traditional and Orthodox synagogues in the Metroplex

  • Interfaith Shabbat -- Sisterhood hosts a dinner and Shabbat evening service with a non-Jewish house of worship in the community  [Return to Top]

     Breast Cancer Awareness      

    Cradle Roll
            For families with children from birth to 6 years old and who want to be involved
            at Temple Emanu-El, offering
                   *  a weekly play group after pre-school's Tot Shabbat program on Fridays
                   *  book clubs and babies every other month
                   *  Tot Shabbat, with Temple Emanu-El's pre-school, and a boxed dinner
                       option to make it easier on families to participate


    Leadership Development
         * Annual retreat with officers from other area Sisterhoods and
              WRJ representatives
           * Attendance at WRJ conferences
         

    Rosh Chodesh
         To celebrate the new moon, we gather in the Celebration
  
        Garden at Temple Emanu-El  to pray, to sing, to learn and to renew our souls. 


       

    

 

 

    Ruach (Spirituality) Group
         Temple Emanu-El's Ruach group meets monthly, usually the third Shabbat of each
           month, for Havdalah,meditation, prayer and potluck dinner.  Sisterhood has been
           sponsoring this group for more than a decade.

  For Religious Action 
      This area of Sisterhood covers a wide variety of short and long
    term projects that reach out to the elderly, the ill, the under-
    privileged, and people coping with a broad range of challenges. 

    Children's Medical Center
           Playing with children whose family members are waiting in the Emergency
           Room;  maintaining the play area and replenishing books, games, and
           coloring materials.

    Tutoring at Maple Lawn Elementary School
   

    North Dallas Shared Ministries
          Volunteering, food drive participation

     
Vogel Alcove
            Volunteering at day care center for children of homeless families

    Chanukah Family Night
         Temple dinner including the lighting of menorahs.

    Holiday cooking school in the fall and spring

    Old City Park winter holiday celebration
 
          Brings an awareness of the meaning of Haukkah to the community through
            demonstrations.

    
Sukkot preparation and dinner            
            Sanctuary and Lefkowitz Chapel. 
            Decorate the Sukkah and the bimahs

            Plan the community dinner in the Sukkah
